If we've left town, I had to pack a literal suitcase for all of my pills. Here's the thing that nobody told me, more was not better. Today, I'm walking you through the supplements that actually move the needle in mold recovery and the why behind every single one. Let's dive in.

Aubree: Welcome back to Mold Free Mom. I am so happy you're here. My name is Aubree and I am the host. I have been through mold illness not once, but twice and fully recovered. And it is my mission in life to help as many people as possible who suffered through mold, just like myself and my family did to reclaim their life and reclaim their health. So today we are talking about supplements, which if you've been ill for a while, you probably have done your fair share of supplements. if you are anything like me, you are probably extremely overwhelmed with the amount of supplements for all of the different things going on with you in your medicine cabinet. My goal for this episode today is to help you understand not just what to take, but why each specific supplement matters. Because when you actually understand what is in what you're taking and what the purpose is, it is a lot easier to be consistent and consistency in the supplement game is what will get you results. Now, quick housekeeping before we get started. I do want to make sure that I Remind you that this episode is educational and it is not individual medical advice. Supplements and dosing should be personalized with a practitioner who knows your case. All right, guys, let's dive in. All right, so first let's talk about why someone who is in the midst of their mold illness recovery or just chronic illness would want to look at supplements. Well, let me first explain mold in a simple way, because when I was first going through mold, I had no idea what was going on. I knew I was sick. I knew that it affected every single system in my body. And to me, it felt so completely overwhelming. Hello brain fog and terrifying and traumatic. that I could not wrap my head around the even science part of what mold I'm going to try to break it down for you in simple terms. Mold doesn't just affect one system. Mold is incredibly inflammatory and it affects every single system in your body. The first area it hits is your nasal cavity and your brain. than your gut, your immune system, your mitochondria, and your nervous system. That's why whenever you start into this game, especially if you were like me and for a while I was trying to piece it together on my own, I was throwing hundreds of random pills and supplements, all natural of course, at all sorts of things and nothing was working. I would take iron over here for my anemia and then it would cause my zinc to go down and I'd have to take zinc over here and this would cause this and this would cause this and it just seemed like a rabbit trail that never ended. And it's also the exact same reason. why taking a few targeted tools can really change everything. So the goal with mold supplementation that I always tell my clients, it isn't more. And I know so many of you are probably used to taking so many things, but usually when people first come to work with me, we drastically reduce and eliminate the majority of what they're taking because so many things cause other things. And what we need to do is match the right support to each system that mold is attacking. First, let's talk about why so many supplements fail. are not regulated by the FDA. So we really don't have any way of knowing what is inside of them. Often there's cheap fillers, there is synthetic forms of the vitamin that is promised that your body simply cannot absorb, and More often than not, I see a lot of people coming in to work with me that are on a completely wrong dose based off of something that they probably saw on an online forum or health group saying, if you just take magnesium, all of your problems will go away. They buy a generic magnesium full of junk, not third party tested and not containing any of what they think it is. And the dosing is not aligned with what the medical studies show. So in my practice, I use very specific supplements that have medical studies backing them at a very specific dose that has been proven to help mitigate the damage that mold does and improve cellular mitochondria function. It isn't random. It isn't just a target that we're going for. This is very specific studied dosing and so many supplements is just a generic dose. So for starters, friends, you want to vet the company that you're getting the supplementation from. You want to find out what is in the supplement. Is it an absorbable form? Is it the right medical dosing? Is it a trusted company that has third party studies being done on the purity of what is in the supplementation and making sure that if you are supposed to have a certain percentage of a vitamin that it actually has that in that and it's not containing heavy metals or a synthetic form that your body can't absorb and is causing an even higher amount of toxicity in your toxic bucket. These are all really important things but even more important when we're dealing with chronic illness and mold because we're already sick. Now, if you're listening to what I'm saying and you're already feeling like, my gosh, I have no idea, Aubree, what is in my supplements? I don't know how to even know if this is the right dosing. I don't know what I actually need. Calm down. Okay. Because that's what this episode is for. I'm going to be walking you through that. All right, so let's jump into the supplements that have been medically studied and proven to help people who are dealing with mold specifically to recover like to put these supplements that I recommend to my clients in buckets. The first bucket that we look at when we are looking to supplement as we are in mold recovery is the bucket to help replenish what mold steals. Because I think we all know that mold not only is it incredibly inflammatory in our system, but it steals and it burns up so many nutrients because our body is working so hard to detox. and so hard to recover and to repair all of the damage that is being done. So one of the first things that I love to recommend to my clients, is magnesium. It's needed for over 350 in enzyme systems and most people are deficient before mold even starts. You can imagine that as you are in a very toxic environment and you're dealing with mold, the longer you are in mold, the quicker your body is burning through. And if you're already deficient, if you're already low in that bucket before we even get into exposure, that's gonna cause a tremendous amount of symptoms on its own. And friends, please don't go out and buy just a magnesium over the counter that just has the magnesium citrate and it helps you go to the bathroom. Okay. We use a very specific type of magnesium in my practice and it has all four different forms in it. So it is not just for detoxing and helping your bowels to release. Number two, vitamin C. Now did you know that your body can't make more or store vitamin C and mold burns through it quickly? So we use a very specific type of vitamin C and a very specific dosage, but super, super helpful, not just for immune function, but also for brain health, depression, anxiety. Number three, vitamin D. I'm sure that we've all heard of this by now, but. I have yet to find anyone in my practice that is not low in vitamin D. Mold just rips it right out from under you. And vitamin D does so much. It's really more of a hormone than it is a vitamin. So it's super, super important to make sure that we're supplementing that in an absorbable form so that we are getting enough because your body will torch through it in mold. Number four, to help replenish what mold is stealing, a potent be complex. Mycotoxins wreck methylation and drain your B vitamins. So it's really important that we are replenishing those B vitamins really good for fatigue, for brain health, for mood regulation, and making sure that we have the appropriate dosage of those guys, as well as the right supplements so that your body can absorb that and not increase your toxic bucket is really important there. All right, let's go to our second bucket. we need supplements that can help to rebuild our brain and our nervous system. Because as you know, when you're in mold and you're breathing in on average 22,000 breaths a day, mycotoxins are entering through your nasal passage, going up into your olfactory bulb and straight up into your brain and central nervous system. So those are some of the first areas that you will notice inflammation and damage. So we really want to focus on rebuilding those areas. This is one of my absolute favorite supplements and it made such a difference for me personally because I had such a... large amount of brain fog and fatigue. And that supplement is phosphatidylserine. I love phosphatidylserine because there's actual clinical trial evidence showing that it helps to improve and mitigate the symptoms of brain fog, word recall, and emotional regulation. So it's been super, super helpful for me personally and for my kiddos that struggled with emotional regulation and brain fog. And another thing that I like to... combat, the brain and nervous system side of things, is fish oils. the brain is about 60 % fat, and these are raw materials for repair. Now, both of these supplements are also incredibly helpful at calming the cell danger response, which if you haven't yet listened to episode 79 on neuroplasticity, I would definitely recommend going back and listening. But in that episode, I talked more in depth about what cell danger response is. I'm not gonna do that now, but to shorten it and give you just a very quick idea of what that looks like when your body is under intense stress, especially with a toxic burden such as mycotoxins mold in the air, and it's chronic. Your cells basically get stuck in a lockdown mode And the lockdown mode is essentially a self-protective way of each cell protecting its mitochondria. So the cell walls get hard and that eliminates the ability for more and more things to move past the cell wall towards the mitochondria. It also stops things that are already in the cell walls and in the mitochondria from being able to be flushed out of the cell. What that means is, If you're in a cell danger response, you can take supplements till you're blue in the face, very little, if any, is getting into the cells. And that explains so much of what I went through when I was taking so many supplements and yet I was locked in cell danger response. Nothing was getting in and I had very expensive bright yellow pee for a really long time. I needed something to help loosen up those cell walls, begin to release that cell danger response, make those cell walls permeable again. so that the toxins and all of the junk that was in my cells could then move past those walls and the detox that my body is already naturally made to do could start working. But also, as I was supplementing with these very replenishing and nourishing supplements, I needed those to be able to get past that lockdown area and begin to feed my cells again. These two are super important for that specifically. All right, let's go to bucket number three. So bucket number three is what I call the calm the fire and protect the cell bucket. And essentially what that means is we all know that when you're in mold or when you're in chronic illness, a huge part of that is inflammation. You're inflamed. Now you may be more inflamed in certain areas, but essentially your body is under attack. It's inflamed, it's swollen. And when that happens, we need extra help, especially dealing with mold. in lowering that inflammation because inflammation is the driver of illness and disease, right? So we need to be able to lower that. And we will see a significant improvement across the board, just eliminating and lowering the inflammation that usually at this point is systemic in our body. I have two supplements in this bucket that I like to use for clients. And the first is a very high dose, a very specific dose of curcumin, which really helps to lower that chronic inflammatory signaling at the core of mold illness. And then the second, which may come as a surprise to you, is melatonin. Now, in the past, I thought melatonin was for sleep. And I think that's probably what most of us think of when we think of melatonin. But actually, after doing a lot of research, I discovered that melatonin actually does so much more. It's incredibly helpful and nourishing to brain health. It helps quite a bit with mood, especially anxiety. It is a potent antioxidant that can shield cells from mycotoxin damage and it supports your brain's nightly detox. So it's a super helpful and targeted supplement. And then my last bucket is what I would say is the heal the gut bucket. And if you are in mold and you are showing symptoms from mold or even chronic illness, high, high, high likelihood that you've got leaky gut. And so we wanna start rebuilding that leaky gut and fixing a lot of my clients will have candida, SIBO, I had those things as well, parasites. We wanna start helping to repair the gut in this process. And to do that, I use a very specific probiotic called Megaspore Biotic. It rebuilds the gut lining that mold tears apart. so that you stop detoxing in a circle. Because obviously if you've got leaky gut and you've got all these tight junctions that are supposed to be squeezed together in the gut open and things are popping out, that's where our autoimmune conditions happen, our food allergies happen, our sensitivities happen. We need that to be repaired. We can do all sorts of detox, but if my leaky gut is out of control and I'm detoxing, I'm really just going in a circle. And then the other thing that I recommend, not for everyone, this is specific to certain people, but I find it very helpful myself, is Tedka. And Tedka is something that we use, especially if you are in the phase in my protocol for antifungals. It's something that we would use to help protect your liver and to help get bile flowing, especially for your gallbladder. so that toxins can actually leave instead of just recirculating in your system. Alright guys, I know that that was a lot and it was kind of science-y. But hopefully you walked away with some really good deeper understanding of what it looks like to target supplements for your mold detox as opposed to just trying random things that you see on the internet. Mold is a whole body problem. It may feel like it's only affecting you in certain areas, but if you're dealing with mold, you're dealing with systemic inflammation. And your supplements really need to support every system that it is hitting. Your brain, your gut, your immune system, your detox pathways, and all of the nutrients that it's quietly stealing and draining. So a random multivitamin can't do that. A random supplement that someone told you on some liver cleanse site can't do that. You really want... to follow a proven protocol. And you don't have to piece this together alone. Knowing which of these you need and at what dose and in what order for your body, your specific set and your stage of recovery is exactly what I help people figure out. So that's the difference between guessing and randomly spending more money than you can even count on all of these supplements and possibly having side effects and not knowing which one is from which and having a plan, a proven plan. backed by science, backed by evidence, backed by experience.
